Here I'll mix hunting
AND showing........ One can have the
best of both worlds as the hunter is normally shown
over an "outside" course,
(outside of the actual show ring)...
to give both horse and rider freedom
from restricting fences.
There are a million
fantastic horse publications out there
but this one in Middleburg, VA is still going
strongafter 61 successful years.
The Chronicle of the Horse Your #1
reference for show results !!

"As a horse jumps, its center of gravity shifts
forward to a pointin front of the
saddle.
To remain in balance, the rider inclines his or her
body intothe two-point position.
A saddle with padded knee rolls for support
and a slightly elevated cantle facilitates
this position."

"Sunset Dreams was created to reflect my love of horses,
sharing the challenges, memories, short stories, and
poems about the horses I have known and loved." THE HUNTER
- Unlike jumpers, hunters are judged not only on
their ability to negotiate obstacles but on the style in
which they do so. They should display jumping ability,
manners, style, and even pace and quality. They are
generally thoroughbreds and should be representative of
the type of horse that provides a safe and pleasant mount
on a foxhound. Both working and conformation hunters
are judged on their ability and performance. However, the confirmation hunter is also judged on its physical attributes and beauty.

In Memory of my pride and joy
"It Takes A Thief"
"Thief" was a registered quarter horse I purchased from
a dealer back in the early '70's.
He'd been badly abused while trained as a Western roping and
cutting horse. He'd never seen a fence other than those created
to confine him yet he had a HUGE heart and a deep willingness to
learn.
I never had the privilege of taking him into the foxhunting
field but together we became "veterans" of many successful horse
shows at a time when quarter horses weren't exactly accepted
in the hunter show ring. | |
