My dear friend Dick Etlinger - Grass Valley, CA **you are missed**
"Eban" is a registered 1/2 Arabian -
Sire "Kocheba" - Dam is quarter horse "Misty."
"He will be 28 years old in January and still
frisky and shiny as a new penny. I've owned him since
he was a baby and will 'till he dies.
"Molly Blue" is a registered paint horse-
the 'blue' because of her two very blue eyes. She belongs
to my grandaughter Becki. I have owned and bred
perhaps 15 horses over the years- one of them
a grandson of the great Arabian "Raffles",
but alas he was sterile
and I never did get a foal from him. As you know, being a
horsewoman, there are horses and then there are
the good ones. Eban and Molly Blue are two of the really
good ones... the ones you love and become a part of
your life."

The following is an excerpt from an email received on July
4th, 2000:
"Erin, I wanted to let you know that Eban passed away. He was in his 29th
year. Was really hard for me. I think you will understand when I tell you
that I feel like there was still some sort of communication between Eban
and
myself even tho he was 120 miles away. The nite he died I was not able to
get to sleep. I usually go to bed a little before midnite and fall asleeep
quickly. That nite I went to bed as usual, but could not get to
sleep...just tossed and turned. I had given up and had gotten up and was
sitting in my recliner when I got the call a little after 2 AM telling me
that the Vet had been with Eban since 10 that nite. I answered the phone
on
the second ring. Maybe just a coincidence yes? There was nothing the Vet
could do so they put him down about 4:30 that morning. He will be greatly
missed. He will be the last horse I will own."

And yet another story...
and a compliment:"I have just gone over you site in depth, reading all of the pages and your
experiences. It is truly a great site, obviously written from the heart.
Many of your stories took me back to my own childhood. I was raised in Pgh,
PA., but as a kid we moved to Camp Hill for about 4 years. Your mentioning
of Harrisburg and Lancaster took me back. Although I wasn't riding then, it
was beautiful country and I loved it there.
After many years of owning an Arabian, I sold him last year. My oldest son
and I were the only ones who rode. He was going off to school and my
business keeps me very busy. I really felt like I/we were ignoring him so I
let him go because I felt it was the best thing for him. But, there is not
a day that goes by that I don't think of him. He was big for an Arabian,
standing over 16 1/2 hands of pure muscle. We were very fortunate when we
got him. He was trained in almost everything! He was a 1,000lb lap dog!
Actually, I was very concerned and rather leery when we first got him. You
know how hyper Arabians can be. But after he got use to us and we him, he
settled down quite a bit and became a good and trusted friend. As I believe
we were to him." The above was written by Mark Heatherington,
owner of EQUI-SIGNS. I'd written to him to request a link exchange and after viewing
my site he shared his story with me. More about Mark and his business can be found at:
